The Indonesian State Electricity Company (PLN) promised on Friday that there will not be any blackout during the holiday season of Christmas 2019 and New Year 2020. “Between December 18, 2019 and January 8, 2020 our power plants will be operational, while transmissions network will also be on active status, with no maintenance planned during the period,” Acting President Director of PLN Sripeni Inten Cahyani said at a press conference in Jakarta.
PLN has prepared reserve electricity supply by providing 2,540 unit of generator sets over several regions across Indonesia, Cahyani added. To support that, it is also ready to deploy 29,200 operators to 2,143 posts.
In this regard, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) held a limited meeting to discuss the preparations for Christmas 2019 and New Year 2020.
Jokowi urged related ministries and institutions along with law enforcement agencies to ensure there was no hitch in the preparations, including transportation and security for the season.
The ministry has set up almost 1,300 ships to anticipate over-capacity of passengers and will be monitoring 51 ports as estimated count of passengers could increase by 5.8 percent, Director General Sea Transportation of Transportation Ministry Agus Purnomo explained.
